On Wednesday it was our last day of Technicraft for 2018. I was so glad that I completed my pendant, it was a long process making it and now I can wear it. For the past few weeks at tech I've been making a cross pendant for my necklace. I'm satisfied with the final product and all that hard work paid off.
This blog is a record of my learning from Ruapotaka School in Auckland, NZ through to Tamaki College.

Christmas Crossover!π
Yesterday we are began Christmas Crossover and I was so excited. The whole school was divided into equal groups of nine, well most of the groups were even. The years seven and eight students in the groups were responsible for looking after the younger students. In my group we had no students from room 1 or 5. Which made it a bit easier as we didn't have to help anyone.
We made Christmas decorations in Room 1 with Mrs Hoeberigs. I can't wait to do more activities today.

Let's Litter Less!
For the past few weeks we've been working very hard in our groups to finish our presentation. My group is small but we have good ideas. Each person had to talk about an important part of littering. My slide is the second one. We each had to think of a question that is relevant to our inquiry topic. This slide presentation was made by Liza,Robati,Henry and myself.
Cultural Groups!
Since the start of term 4 the years 7 and 8 students have been working hard practicing their cultural dances.
I'm so glad that the Tongan group started in term 3 because we would've been freaking out trying to learn a dance.
The other groups have been hardworking and giving it their all during practice. I hope we do good in our dance on prize giving and cultural groups day. Until then we will be busy practicing and perfecting our performance.

I Declare A Ceasefire!
This week my group and I have been studying information about Armistice Day. My slide is number 4 which is mostly about the agreement. In my group there is Malia, Izabella, Ana and myself. Armistice day is a day that should be recognized and celebrated more in NZ because it was to mark the end of WW1 or the great war. From what we've been researching Armistice Day should be one of the important days.

Back From The Film Festival!
I'm so glad that I made it back to school on the bus with my friends. As I predicted I am exhausted and happy that it is over. But not really because I still have to go to the one showcasing in the evening.
I was able to see many schools like Glenbrae, Glen Taylor and other cool schools. My favourite part was getting to see my friends and cousins from the other schools. I even got to see our old teacher Mr Sok.
At least the day is over and now I can kick back, relax and watch more manaiakalani movies.

The Manaiakalani Film Festivals!π
Today I am going to the film festival with my teacher and Saluselo because we are presenters for our class film. I am both nervous and excited because this is my first time presenting. I'm excited mostly because I will get to present in front of many different schools and I get to watch their movies.
After the film festival I'm going to be so exhausted because I'm going to be there for the whole day, and I will be there in the evening. Hopefully I do well!π

Testing, Testing And More Testing!
This whole week was the most stressful week ever because we had to do our end of year testing. On top of that we have our cultural groups and prize giving, but I decided to focus on my education this week, as the tests are not completed yet.
Hopefully today is the last day for testing, because I don't know if I have any knowledge left in my brain. As it is near the end of the year I'm nervous because these results will determine which class I'm in next year in college. I hope I do well.

It's Nearly The End Of Term 3!
It is now week 9 the second to last week of Term 3 and I can't wait until the holidays. I like the holidays because I can spend some quality time with my family.
The worst part of the holidays is being without my friends! I only have a week and a half left to make the best of Term 3.
Next term I'm going to have mixed emotions because I'm nearly going to college. We still have cultural groups, prize giving and many more stressful things as Year 8 students.

Making My Charity Box At Technicraft
On Wednesday Vika, Pupuke and I were continuing with our charity box. Making our charity box was easier since Pupuke joined our group because after all the more the merrier.
The shape of our box is a cross shape which is meant to represent a hospital which is why we chose to make a charity for all the sick patients. There were a lot of different charity boxes like an animal shaped one, a house and many more.
Our last step was to dry the paper mache then it was completed.

Kahurangi!
On Wednesday we were lucky enough to watch the Kahurangi group perform and sing. They retold some myths and legends and they sang a waiata (song). The dances were quite humorous and funny.
The funniest part of the whole performance was when they selected three boys to participate. The participants were Texas, Kingston and Mr Reid. We all enjoyed the show so much that we lost track of time and it was already home time before we even arrived at our classes.

Syndicate Assembly!
On Monday Room 9 was hosting the syndicate assembly. The first song we sang was What Do I Know? by Ed Sheeran Then we moved on to the activity.
The participants from Room 12 were Liza and Julianne and the other students were, Jacob, Kate and Unita. The game was challenging but in the end Jacob won the game.
The final song we sang was Teaching the World to Sing. Then the certificates were Given to the hard working students and the prefect reminders were said. The assembly was a success and we all went back to class to begin home learning.

Our Hip Hop Dance Groups
On Friday we had our normal hip hop but this week we had to put our dance into a song. It was really difficult because we couldn't decide weather to dance fast or slow. After listening to the beat we started putting our choreography into it. After fifteen minutes of practicing we had to stop and show the whole class our routine. At the last minute we put an extra move into the dance.
This is our dance!

Hip Hop Learning to Choreograph!
On Tuesday we went to the multi purpose room for our hip hop class with Jess. First we played musical statue and I surprisingly came second. Next we were allowed to choose our own groups and we had to make up the choreography. I was the leader in my group. In my group is Mary, Mary Ruth, Julianne, Vika and Konzay. We were finding it difficult because we were use to following the dance not making one up. To come up with a solution we all came up with a dance move.
After practicing it a couple of times we were nailing it. Then the session was over next week we are going to be practicing more and maybe adding music.

Special Maths and Social Studies for Year 8's
On Monday the 28th of May a school assembly was held in the multipurpose and there was a surprise. Before the surprise it was a usual assembly which was singing the national anthem.
Next, we had to listen to the prefect reminders. After that we saw our house point's. In the beginning of the term Whero was leading but now Kowhai is catching up.
Izabella received a Duffy award. Finally it was the surprise and it was that the year 8 students were going to be participating in a Maths and Social study with a special tutor.

Road Safety Week!
Last week was Road Safety Week. We had to make a group slide and write facts or rules about being safe on roads. We also had to give our group a name. We named our team the Safety Management group.
After finishing our slides I created a group survey for others to answer. Now we are writing some scripts for our up coming movie. I can't wait to start filming.

Yummy Burgers!
Today at Technicraft we made some delicious and healthy burgers.
The first step was to fry our eggs then we baked our bread at 180 Degrees Celsius. Once the eggs were fried we had to take out our bread and start filling in our burger. The layers were lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, eggs and finally the cheese. Then we took photos and we all began to eat.

Kiwi Sport Hip Hop!π
Today we went to our hip hop class in the Multi Purpose room. Jess, our coach, demonstrated some warm ups and we had to space out and copy her. After warming up she started the first set of her choreography. We danced to Up Town Funk by Bruno Mars. At first I was finding the dance difficult but after practicing it a few times I finally knew the dance.
My favourite part of hip hop was playing musical statue but there was a twist. Instead of walking we had to dance. I was trying not to move when the music stopped. Luckily we were allowed to blink and breathe. We were dancing to Finesse by Cardi B and Bruno Mars.
Sadly our session had to come to an end. We all had fun. We all left sweaty and tired. We couldn't wait for our next session.

French Toast!
This morning my group and I made French toast which was delicious. Firstly we set out our equipment then we followed the methods on the board. The ingredients that were needed were five eggs and half of a cup of milk. Then we heated the pan on the element and melted the butter on top.
I was working with Alexandra and Vika so we had to take turns frying the French toast. I've really enjoyed this week's tech I hope we make it again.

Sponge Cake!
Today at Technicraft we made sponge cake. This time I was careful not to over whip the batter.
The ingredients that we needed was one cup of S.R.F ( self rising flour), three eggs and one cup of white sugar.
The first method we had to do was to combine the egg and sugar until it was a light and creamy texture. Next we had to add our flour and mix it until we couldn't see it any more. The final step was to heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and then put our cake in.
After baking in the oven for 15 minutes it was ready to eat. This is how our cake looked.

Vanilla Muffins
The ingredients we used to make our muffins was one cup of sugar, four eggs and one and a half cup of S.R.F (Self Rising Flour).
To begin with we whisked the eggs and the sugar until it was the consistency of light and fluffy cream. This time I made sure not to over whip the muffin. After leaving it to cook in the oven for approximately 20 minutes it was over baked and it was burnt but I took off the burnt pieces.
It was yummy!!

Nachos
On Wednesday the year eight students from Ruapotaka and St Pius School were working together to make some delicious nachos, while the year sevens were making healthy fruit salad. The first step to making our nacho was to slice and dice the onions then, fry them with oil. Next we put the mince, tomato paste and the baked beans into the pan. Once they were all combined together we put our nachos base on our plates of chips. Now it was the fun and easy part eating it. Our nachos were so delicious. I can't wait for next week. We're Baking Sponge Rolls!π
We all were divided into groups of three which were A, B and C. I was selected to be in group A and I was so excited because we were going to be cooking.Collaborating with another school was very new to us but as we started cooking we felt a little bit more comfortable around each other.
The ingredients for the sponge rolls are one cup of SRF ( Self Rising Flour) flour, one cup of sugar, one third of a cup of oil and four eggs. First, we combined the eggs, sugar and oil together. Then once it was mixed we used a hand mixer to whip the batter until it was a light and fluffy texture like cream.
After ten minutes in the oven it was over flowing but at least it tasted good.
Be careful not to over mix, so next time I'm going to take my time as this was a good practice.
This is what it looked like after I scraped off the edges.

Back To School
Finally it's 2018 and I'm so excited to see my friends and class mates. As I was walking to school I felt nervous because I just remembered that I am a year eight. As an intermediate student there are high expectations for me because the whole school looks up to the older seniors. We have to be good role models.
This year I am going to set my goals higher and I'm going to try and be better than before. I am apprehensive for week 6 because we have our Manaiakalani test which is writing. I hope I do well.
